In recent weeks the government of Nepal announced a series of regulations that affect the casino industry and gambling at the local level. The measures in the approval process for casinos, in addition, also spread over different centers and spas and entertainment venues.
The spokesman Laxman Bhattarai said he had received dozens of complaints about a series of negligence within the casino industry. “We have seen the need for close follow-up on the various activities that affect the casinos, so the ministry is no alternative but to make the relevant regulations,” said Bhattarai.
So far, the Nepal Police was responsible for ensuring order and tranquility in the local casinos. However, their range of action was limited only to prevent access to local citizens who would like to bet in these casinos. From now on, the casinos of Nepal incorporate a variety of standards that already govern in the best casinos worldwide.
“We plan to carry out specific regulations for health centers and spas, as in recent years these sectors have also emerged as strong industries. Once we find these regulations shall be implemented to the analysis and study of possible changes in other areas such as tourism agencies, the hospitality industry and travel in general, “said Bhattarai.
Currently 10 casinos operating in Nepal (Kathmandu and Pokhara distributed). Each casino pays the government a sum of 20 million rupees in taxes.
