Just as in the previous stage of the European Poker Tour – the Copenhagen giocatasi in February – is a Norwegian, William Thorson, sitting on top of the provisional standings after the first two days of opening Dortmund Pokerstars.com EPT Main Event . 115 of 306 players who began the day, managed to qualify for Day 2 on Thursday. After eight hard fought game levels, Thorson was able to turn his 10,000 chip starting stack in an extraordinary 84’500 which puts him ahead on the German Robert Zipf, a qualified online and finished the day in second place 72’300 in the championship.
Johannes Strassmann, who last year was the final table of that event (finishing in seventh place), spent a day of ups and downs but managed to survive as Alexander Kravchenko, and Soren Kongsgaard Rolf Slotboom. Meanwhile, other professionals of international reputation suffered from a fate far worse than being eliminated. Among the many fallen Biechel remember Remy, Barny Boatman, Rasmus Nielsen, Roberto Romanello and Ivan Demidov.
Other familiar faces make their appearance during the second session of Day 1 scheduled for today, among them Dario Minieri, Bertrand Grospellier, Marcel Luske and the sample Main Event World Series of Poker 2008 Peter Eastgate. The total number of participants should substantially exceed the threshold of 411 members registered last year when Canadian Mike McDonald won the title.
