During 2009 many of Russia’s casinos had to close its facilities following a series of complaints and demands driven by different sectors. The high rollers betting in that country, however, found new ways to invest their money in casinos.
Already met almost a year since Russia closed all casinos with the exception of four, located in Kaliningrad, southern Siberia, Primorye and the Azov Sea coast. Neighboring states, in this instance, projected earnings that could be reached from expanding their own markets.
The truth is that, against all expectations, the casinos that benefited most from the closure of complex bets in Russia were those of Monaco and Las Vegas. In fact, Russia’s casinos bettors chose these cities to Minsk, Riga and Yerevan, casino destinations much closer but do not have the celebrity of the casinos of Las Vegas.
In Belarus, on the other hand, local authorities carried out aggressive plans to exploit the fact that Russia no longer allow the casinos (at least most popular).
“For us the casino industry and gambling can be an excellent source of income and can generate numerous employment opportunities for local people,” said Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus.
“All the opportunities we see to develop the activities that were held in Russia will be considered in detail by all our officers,” said the president.
